Annual statistics on the number of appointments and reappointments to public bodies 2014/15
The Office of the Commissioner has published its Annual Statistical Survey of Ministerial Appointments and Reappointments for 2014/15 to public bodies which the Commissioner regulates.
The statistics show a number of positive trends in the diversity of those being appointed to public bodies:
- the proportion of women taking up public appointments has increased from 39.3% to 45.2%– the best performance since 2009/10 when the current data series began;
- appointments made to people from a Black, Asian or Ethnic Minority background have been slowly rising over the past three years and is now at 7.9%, its highest level since 2009/10;
However it was disappointing to note that:
- appointments made to people who declared a disability fell to 4.6%, the lowest level since 2010/11.
The statistics also show that the proportion of those public appointees declaring political activity has dropped from 4.9% in 2013/14 to 4.5% in 2014/15.
