New Public Appointments Order in Council 2013 approved by the Privy Council
A new Public Appointments Order in Council 2013 was approved by the Privy Council in April. This is the legislation which sets out the Commissioner’s powers and lists which public bodies he regulates appointments to.
In addition to setting out a new and comprehensive list of bodies which fall within the Commissioner’s remit, the Order also includes a new power for Ministers to request that the Commissioner carries out (with his agreement) additional functions in relation to appointments, public or otherwise. The Cabinet Office has committed to updating the Schedule to the Order on an annual basis so that it provides a much more current reflection of the bodies which the Commissioner regulates.
